From the big shiny offices in Amsterdam, Oxfordshire and New York to the small cluttered spaces of editors and small society publishers around the world, the most common lament these days is "Who's got the plan?" What is the future for scholarly communication? How will peer-reviewed journal publishing morph in the next decade?
Digitization, open access (OA), Web 2.0, and the integration of scientific data lead the numerous issues, euphemistic "challenges" and outright risks that all mean change in the scholarly publishing world and change in the roles of authors, granting agencies, publishers and libraries.
