Irish cinema as a subject of study was virtually ignored until the late eighties, but it seems that researchers are now making up for lost time. There is no longer any shortage of authoritative volumes on the role of nation and history in Irish narrative film. In a welcome addition to this canon, a new collection of essays brings a more nuanced approach to the study of Irish cinema, edited by a familiar voice in Irish film scholarship.
