CALPERS ADOPTS 2009 HEALTH MAINTENANCE ORGANIZATION PREMIUMS - RESULT IS LOWEST OVERALL INCREASE IN MORE THAN DECADE

The California Public Employees Retirement System issued the following press release:

The CalPERS Board of Administration today signed off on health maintenance organization (HMO) premiums for 2009, completing a process that results in an overall premium increase of 4.3 percent for its entire health care package of plans - the smallest increase in more than a decade.

The Basic HMO premiums for 2009 are set at nearly 6.6 percent, while the Basic preferred provider organization (PPO) rates - approved last month - will decline slightly by 0.04 percent.
