A scoop to save the bees

Honeybees do the most critical work for nearly 40 percent of ice-cream manufacturer Haagen-Dazs' superpremium flavors, pollinating fields of clover and forests of fruit trees. A division of The Pillsbury Co., Haagen-Dazs hopes to return the favor by supporting research into the cause of colony-collapse disorder, the unexplained sudden disappearance of millions of honeybees around the world since 2006. So far, the company has donated $250,000 in research money to programs at Penn State University and the University of California at Davis.
