New NAACP president hopes to keep organization relevant

The NAACP went to the fountain of youth and came back with a president.

Ben Jealous, 35, became the newest and youngest president of the NAACP on Saturday, May 17. The 99-year-old civil rights organization that has had members the likes of Ida B. Wells, W.E.B. DuBois, Roy Wilkins and Julian Bond hadn't had a president for the past year since Bruce Gordon left the post in March 2007.

The vote for NAACP president, which took place in Baltimore, was 34-21 in the favor of Jealous. It was reported by CNN that no one clapped or celebrated in the selection of Jealous and that two other finalist were in the running but were not presented by the search committee.
