Clippers share Negro League legacy

Columbus revisits history of Black baseball, donates tickets to students

The Columbus Clippers honored the legends of the Negro Leagues on May 23-25.

Souvenirs commemorating Black baseball in Columbus were given out prior to last weekends games. Fans received Columbus Blue Bird hats, T-shirts and bobble head dolls as many of them were introduced to the team that competed in Ohio's capitol city in 1933.

"The Blue Birds finished in sixth place in '33 and the team disbanded. But the club had some memorable ball players," wrote Clippers Director of Communications and baseball historian Joe Santry.
