Officials see red over bar's name, location

The writing might be on the wall for a proposed new downtown La Crosse bar whose name makes city officials uneasy.

City officials are searching for legal cause to reject an application from Bars None Inc. for a Graffiti's Sports Pub and Eatery at 107 S. Third St.

For starters, they don't like the name, considering recent problems with graffiti in the downtown.

But they and business owners are equally reluctant to allow another tavern on the bar-saturated Third Street strip.

"We're continuing to add to the image we have downtown, which is one of binge drinking," said Bud Miyamoto, executive director of Downtown MainStreet Inc.
