Toray Industries starts up nonwoven production plant in China

Business and industry news

A NEW TORAY INDUSTRIES nonwovens plant in China has begun trial operations and plans to startup full production this month.

Toray Polytech Nantong (TPN) has an annual capacity of 18 kt of polypropylene spunbond-meltblown-spunbond (SMS) capacity. Despite the soaring cost of raw materials, which it is finding hard to pass on to customers, Toray says its SMS sales are increasing rapidly and it will shortly install a second line at the TPN facility.

In addition to hygiene end-uses, TPN is seeking to develop others, such as medical applications, in collaboration with the Toray Fibers and Textiles Research Laboratories, which are also located in Nantong.
