Edward Blum makes it clear from the very beginning of his study that his goal is to correct scholars' failure to accurately understand who William E. B. Du Bois was. Showing much chutzpah, he takes on most if not all of the standard interpretations of Du Bois and boldly announces that they have neglected to present an accurate picture of who this man was because they have "left him out of the canon of great religious minds in U.
