LAUDERDALE LAKES, (Sun-Sentinel):
THOUSANDS OF people enjoyed the beats of the Caribbean while playing dominoes, eating heaping plates of jerk chicken or talking politics as they came together Sunday to celebrate their cultures.
As many as 10,000 people were expected to make their way to Vincent Torres Park in Lauderdale Lakes to be part of Unifest, the longest-running Caribbean festival in Broward County. The event, in its 14th year, opened its doors at 10 a.m. and was set to go until 11 p.m.
Unifest is designed to bring together Broward residents from the various islands, said Andrew Azebeokhai, the festival's chairman. It kicks off Caribbean American Heritage Month.
