Zone in on: IT Wireless Automation Industry Inches Toward Convergence Document

Industry automation experts are keeping an eye on the developments in establishing a wireless standard document that seeks to take the best of WirelessHART and the best of ISA 100.11 a and combine them into one "convergence document." The convergence document would take the place of both so that the industry would have one standard. Currently, the wireless automation industry has one approved standard from the HART Communication Foundation (HCF, Austin, TX), which released WirelessHART in September 2007, and one under development by ISA (Research Triangle Park, NC), which plans to release its standard, ISA 100.11a, by the end of 2008 (1).
