The last decade has produced important progress in our understanding of catalytic reactions in zeolite materials. In many cases, we know with confidence the chemical bonds that form and break as reactants are converted into products, writes Raul Lobo, professor of chemical engineering at the Univ. of Delaware, in the June AIChE Journal Perspective, "The Chemical Diversity of Zeolite Catalytic Sites." This progress reflects advances in spectroscopic techniques, extensive use of in situ characterization methods, sophisticated use of computational chemistry, and tremendous success in the synthesis and characterization of new materials. The ability to elucidate in molecular detail the structure ...
