Congress expedites action on Defense Authorization bills.

Money drives Defense. The election cycle accelerates defense spending. These two factors in a budget-conscious Congress have made for Senate and House versions of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that are more streamlined and smaller than last year's.

The Senate completed its NDAA mark-up on the last day of April; the House in the middle of May. While the bills will not be voted on by the respective chambers until later in June, this is the earliest completion of the individual Defense bills in recent years.
