Congressional leaders push for the Navy to use nuclear fuel.
If certain congressional House leaders have their way, the Navy could see a return to a nuclear surface fleet. The House Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and Expeditionary Forces has been exploring this option as a way to reduce the military's dependence on fossil fuels.
Subcommittee chairman Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) explained: "In any future conflict, we want our enemies to worry about where their fuel is coming from. We don't want our Navy to worry about where its fuel is coming from."
