Although the role of diet in cancer prevention has been recognized for some time, the amount of scientific literature on this topic has increased dramatically in the last decade. The 2007 World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer is the most comprehensive evaluation to date (1). In examining breast cancer, the report identified that the strongest evidence linked body fatness and the consumption of alcohol to an increased risk of postmenopausal breast cancer.
