Assumptions Lead to the Devaluation of Dietitian Roles in Long-term Care Practice Environments

Changing demographics in aging place new demands on dieticians related to education and subsequent employment. This study presents data from a survey illuminating dietitians' perceptions concerning the acquisition of entry-level clinical competence within a single practice setting. A purposive sample consisting of recent, employed internship graduates (n = 8) and internship supervisors (n = 6) from both long-term and active care settings completed a survey and was interviewed.
