Audits were traditionally associated with gaining information about financial systems and the financial records of a company. However, auditing has evolved to encompass much more than this and the role of the auditor and accountant as a strategic advisor has grown in importance.
The sheer volume of data that a company generates from its supply chain through to the front office and all the way to the back-end systems has grown exponentially in the internet age. Information is now measured in terabytes rather than in megabytes.
