"Once you've tried natural fibers, you don't want to use anything else," says Judy Osborn, owner with husband Phill of Abundant Acres near Hagerstown, where they breed Angora rabbits and Finnsheep. "I used to crochet with acrylic yams from Wal-Mart, because natural fiber yarns are more than double the price of synthetics.

"I especially like Angora but it's an expensive fiber: the raw fleece [not spun into yarn] sells for $4 to $5 an ounce. Raising my own rabbits and sheep is one way I can afford natural fibers."

The Osborns also sell raw fleece and yarn in a retail shop at Abundant Acres, at sheep and rabbit shows, over the Internet and by mail.
