Last April, as the DS team was hard at work on our annual NYC/Broadway issue, I was invited to a press event for Billy Elliot: The Musical, which opens on Broadway in November. The producers had finally found three boys to play Billy (selected from the 1,500 who auditioned nationwide). I entered the auditorium and saw a mass of photographers and news crews lining the back of the room, and I knew 1 was in for a treat. The three teens-David Alvarez, 14 (see "The Next Generation," DS March 2008), Trent Kowalik, 13, and Kiril Kulish, 14-were there, and so was Sir Elton John, who wrote the music for the show!
