JCRC hands out honors, political pundits take stage

While John McCain has a solid chance at the presidency, it's going to be a pretty bleak year for Republicans everywhere else, according to a Republican strategist who spoke last week at the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington's annual fund-raiser.

Rich Galen, also a former press secretary to Newt Gingrich and Dan Quayle, said that most Republicans would be happy to lose only four seats in the Senate, and the best-case scenario for the House would be losing 10-15 seats.

But he thought the presidential race would be a "very close campaign," noting that McCain is likely to lose a 5-7 percent slice of the electorate that leans far right, while hoping to gain up to 15-20 ...
