Hospital-physician partnerships may need to be closely reviewed.
Can a board make effective decisions without physician input? The assumption that hospital and health system boards work best when there is a voting physician board member or two is being questioned in some executive suites and boardrooms around the country. The reasons are twofold. Because physicians are entering into increasingly complex financial arrangements with hospitals, it has become harder to find physician leaders who do not have serious conflicts of interest to serve on the board.
