FROM THE PRESIDENT

IT WAS NOT melancholia but sheer serendipity that led me to discover the Yale Daily News obituary for the late William F. Buckley, originally printed on Thursday, February 28, 2008. Just as I began to write this, my final message on these pages as President, I read their tribute to that erudite, witty, and eloquent American conservative. For many years I have grudgingly admired Buckley. Sharing few of his political convictions, and only some of his religious ones, I was nevertheless unable to withhold my respect for his elegance of language and the balance with which he presented his opinions.
