Northern Engraving to close plant

WAUKON, Iowa - Northern Engraving Corp. plans to close its Waukon factory, the second-largest employer in town with 207 jobs, in August.

Ed Johnson, a vice president at Northern Engraving headquarters in Sparta, Wis., said Friday the company does not comment publicly on its business decisions. The firm makes nameplates and other decorative products for a wide variety of items such as electronics and automobiles.

A plant-closing notice the company filed with government and union officials says it plans to shut down, the Waukon facility in August. Layoffs are expected to begin about Aug. 8 and be completed within two weeks. The layoffs are expected to be permanent.
