Wisconsin fails in report on health insurance protection

A new report gives Wisconsin a failing grade in providing consumer protections in the individual health insurance market.

The first ever 50-state survey of the regulatory efforts of states shows Wisconsin is poor in many key regulatory areas.

At a press conference Thursday in La Crosse, Ann Vogel of Citizen Action of Wisconsin said insurance companies in Wisconsin can deny health coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, refuse to pay for services needed to treat common ailments and deny payments when consumers face a rash of medical bills.
