The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management issued the following news release:

The Department of Environmental Management, in cooperation with the US Forest Service and the RI Forest Fire Advisory Committee, announces the availability of grants for rural wild land fire suppression planning, training and equipment. The grants range in amounts from $1,000 to $6,000 and are being made available through the federal Volunteer Fire Assistance program.

Those eligible for the grants include single fire departments serving a rural area or community with a population of 10,000 or less. Area fire departments and fire districts that serve an aggregate population of greater than 10,000 are ...
