Precipitating Problem:

Occasionally, as a school therapist, I saw students in primary grades with interphalangeal joints of their fingers or thumbs that hyperextended excessively in their efforts to stabilize their pencils to print. Hypermobility can result in abnormal positioning and pain during or after stressful activity. Stabilizing the joint during stressful activity can reduce the pain. Commercially available finger splints were not small enough for the students I saw. Customfinger splints made of silver were available, but they were costly and young children frequently lose things. I sought to find a time and cost efficient means of providing better joint stability for these students.
