ONR PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR WINS PRESTIGIOUS 2008 LEMELSON-MIT PRIZE

The U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Research issued the following press release:

Dr. Joseph DeSimone, Chancellor´s Eminent Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and William R. Kenan Jr., Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University, is the 2008 recipient of the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize for his inventions in green manufacturing, nanomedicine, and medical devices, in addition to his lab-to-market entrepreneurship and commitment to mentorship.

Dr. DeSimone has been a long-time principal investigator with the Office of Naval Research (ONR), which funded his early fluoropolymer work that turned out to be career-defining. ...
