ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 18 -- Mu Gyeom Kim, Wo Jae Woo and Jong Jin Park, all from Gyeonggi-Do, South Korea, and Jong Ho Son of Seoul, South Korea, have developed a liquid crystal display using cholesteric mixture.
According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A liquid crystal display device is disclosed that has a cholesteric compound layer, a backplane light, and one or more polarizers and liquid crystal smectic C* layers. The cholesteric compound layer transmits elliptically polarized light having an amount of absorbance which is related to the angular rotation of the polarization.
