The Leading Index for France Declined 0.5 Percent

The Conference Board issued the following news release:

The Conference Board reports today that the leading index for France declined 0.5 percent and the coincident index remained unchanged in May.

In May, the leading index declined for the seventh consecutive month, primarily as a result of large declines in production expectations, industrial new orders, and building permits. New unemployment claims (inverted) was the largest positive contributor. Since November, the leading index has declined by 2.1 percent (about a -4.2 percent annual rate), well below the 0.5 percent annual rate of decline for the second half of 2007.
