Here's one train that's clearly on the fast track.

The latest creation from French transport giant Alston, the AGV (Automotrice à Grande Vitesse) has a top commercial speed of 360 kilometers per hour (224 miles per hour).

Progress on the euro100 million ($147 million) project didn't always move so quickly, though. In 1998, Alstom's engineering team began studying ways to improve the company's existing model, the TGV-which at 320 kilometers per hour (199 miles per hour) was no slouch in the speed department.
