FOR A WHILE THERE, it looked like South Africa might receive a red card-the penalty for failing to meet the demands of hosting the 2010 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup. But the country stayed in the game and is putting in a solid performance as it launches a blitz of construction projects.
Whether you call it football or soccer, the game boasts some of the most rabid fans out there, and they remain bitterly divided over the decision to hold the World Cup in an African nation for the first time. Many have questioned whether South Africa has the money and talent to meet the project's delivery goals.
