Since 2004, the determination of a former resident of Svay Klang, Cambodia, a Cham Muslim village home to some 2,100 people, has begun to pay off. Growing out of a volunteer effort, this initiative now has two male and seven female teachers instructing thirty-six poor and/or orphaned students in reciting the Qur'an, reading the hadith, and learning basic Islamic rituals and practices.
