The Miami-Dade County government issued the following news release:
Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson addressed the disturbing trend of high black infant mortality rates in Miami-Dade County at a town hall meeting at the African Cultural Arts Center on July 16. The meeting was organized by the Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade, which was selected by Florida Governor Charlie Crist to determine the county's risk factors leading to black infant deaths before age one.
According to the Healthy Start Coalition, the infant mortality rate among children of black mothers in the county is more than twice that of children with white mothers. Governor Crist signed the Black Infant Health Practice ...
