Article: Rep. Herseth Sandlin Introduces Foot and Mouth Disease Prevention Act

WASHINGTON, July 22 -- Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, D-South Dakota, has introduced the Foot and Mouth Disease Prevention Act of 2008 (H.R. 6522), legislation that would "prohibit the importation of ruminants and swine, and fresh and frozen meat and products of ruminants and swine, from Argentina until the Secretary of Agriculture certifies to Congress that every region of Argentina is free of foot and mouth disease without vaccination."

The bill, introduced on July 16, was co-sponsored by Reps. Barbara Cubin, R-Wyoming; Earl Pomeroy, D-North Dakota; Nancy Boyda, D-Kansas; Steve Kagen, D-Wisconsin; and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Washington. It was referred to the ...
