8th Jameson Belfast Film Festival (10-19 April 2008, Belfast)

The Belfast International Film Festival showed that the event has matured into a significant and well-organised part of the calendar. The opening screening was Reservation Road, Terry George's American drama about the devastating effect on both the victim's family and the driver when a little boy is killed in a hit and run incident. It was graced by Jennifer Connelly in the role of the grieving mother, but the not inconsiderable acting plaudits went to both male leads, Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Ruffalo.
