Endovascular treatment of scalp cirsoid aneurysms

Arteriovenous fistulae were first described by Hunter in 1757. [1] The term cirsoid aneurysm was applied to vascular malformations of the scalp in 1833 by Brecht. [1] The malformation is drained by enlarged, tortuous veins, which may, in parts, show variceal dilatation. Various names have been used to describe these lesions like aneurysma cirsoide, aneurysma serpentinum, aneurysma racemosum, plexiform angioma, arteriovenous fistula, arteriovenous aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation.
