Article: Military sends more troops to Mindanao

THE military has stepped up its internal security operation (ISO) in the South as part of its continuous efforts to neutralize the communist guerrillas in the region. These militants have been very active over the past weeks.

This was learned after the military confirmed the deployment of additional troops, and other military assets to the eastern Mindanao to go after the New People's Army (NPA) in the area.

A battalion of mechanized infantry-about 500 soldiers with tanks and armored vehicles-plus two field artillery batteries of about 200 gunners, was deployed in Mindanao on Sunday, said the region's military spokesman, Major Armand Rico.
