* There are now over 27,000 nuclear weapons in the world, deployed on land, sea, and un the air. They pose a constant threat of nuclear war and radioactive contamination. Nine countries have nuclear weapons: the United States, Russia, France, China, Britain, Israel, India, Pakistan, and North Korea. It is estimated that as many as 40 other countries have the knowledge to build or acquire such weapons.
