Article: Pennington fortune left to foundation

Over the years, Claude B. "Doc" Pennington gave vast sums to help others. In the end, he is giving even more.

Pennington, who died on Aug. 7 at age 97, has left the bulk of his vast fortune to a foundation that has been helping local groups since it was created in 1982, according to his will and family attorney Gerald Walter.

The will, which was filed the day after Pennington died, doesn't say how much the Irene W. and C.B. Pennington Foundation will get from the estate. That's because a company managing Pennington's oil business is calculating the assets, which then will be filed with the court.

But Walter confirmed that the foundation does get most of the assets.
