Lack of accessibility and understanding are two barriers that prevent people from "getting" art on a wider scale.

Although, in reality, most art is not all that inaccessible, there is one type that is meant specifically to engage everyone and anyone: public art.

Public art attempts to communicate and interact with the public in an extremely reachable manner. If we didn't have pieces like the Louis Riel statue in St. Boniface or the multicoloured murals across the walls of downtown, Winnipeg would be just another city. These works reflect the personality of Winnipeg in a unique and permanent way.
