Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M. (3rd CD), issued the following news release:
U.S. Representative Tom Udall, D-N.M., today backed legislation to give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) the authority to curb excessive speculation that is driving up the cost of oil.
"This legislation simply says that speculators have to play by the rules," said Udall. "Excessive speculation can have a major impact on middle class families, and it may be adding as much as a dollar per gallon to the price of gas. Yet many oil speculators are not even bound by the commonsense regulations that other traders must follow. We need to stand up to the speculators and do what's right to help New Mexico families ...
