The 9th Biodiesel Short Course took take place May 17-18, 2008, at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, and was organized by Sefa Koseoglu of Filtration and Membrane World. It attracted more than 80 people from 14 countries.
Tim Kemper of Desmet Ballestra talked about the importance of NFPA, EPA, and OSHA compliance and reviewed required permits, operational parameters, and management issues.
Jon H. Van Gerpen of the University of Idaho discussed the basics of biodiesel engines and indicated that fuel quality is important to prevent the most common operational issue of filter plugging, which is associated with incomplete reaction, cold flow, and fuel oxidation.
