Caregivers Given Support with New Program

The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, has embarked on a program that seeks to care for a segment of the military medical community more used to giving care than receiving it. The program, called Care for Caregivers, was created to find and treat a syndrome called "compassion fatigue" in military health care providers. Also known as secondary traumatic stress disorder, the condition is the result of the exposure to patients recovering from traumatic events.
