Murder suspect pleads not guilty in jail assault

MOUNT HOLLY -- A Pemberton Township man who is being held in Burlington County Jail on a murder charge has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a female jail officer.

Hassan Shabazz, 18, of Lemmon Avenue was indicted last month on a charge of aggravated assault for allegedly spitting on an officer at the jail in Mount Holly on Sept. 17.

The incident occurred when the officer was transporting Shabazz inside the jail, Assistant Prosecutor Michael Mormando said.

Shabazz pleaded not guilty during a hearing yesterday before Judge John A. Almeida.
