Hersey Hawkins averaged a then-record 36.3 points as a senior at Bradley University.
He was the sixth pick in the 1988 NBA Draft.
He earned all-rookie honors after averaging 15.1 points for the 76ers in 1988-89 and went on to become an all-star in his third pro season.
Yet former Sixers coach Jim Lynam couldn't get Hawkins off the floor fast enough in his first playoff series.
In a 1989 three-game sweep by the Knicks, Hawkins shot 3-for-24 (12.5 percent) from the field and averaged 2.7 points in 24.0 minutes. Gerald Henderson, by then a journeyman, ended up playing as many minutes and far better than the overwhelmed Hawkins.
