PHILADELPHIA -- Here was the perfect Kyle Kendrick inning:
The first hitter -- in this case, Florida first baseman Mike Jacobs in the fourth inning Wednesday -- smacked a hard ground ball up the middle. Kendrick speared it with his glove and threw out Jacobs at first.
The next batter, Cody Ross, cracked another sharp grounder, this time to Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Had he hit the ball a foot to either side of Rollins, Ross would have had a single. Instead, he hit the ball right at Rollins, who threw him out.
The next batter was the Marlins' No. 8 hitter, John Baker. Kendrick walked him.
