PRESIDENT BUSH SIGNS SAFETEA-LU TECHNICAL CORRECTIONS BILL

On June 6, 2008, President George W. Bush signed H.R. 1195 bipartisan legislation that makes technical corrections to RL. 109-59, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), which was passed in 2005. Bush originally threatened to veto H.R. 1195, but it passed both Houses of Congress by a veto-proof margin.

Among other changes, the bill provides approximately $37 million annually in additional research funding. All of the Title V research funding in SAFETEA-LU was congressionally earmarked. There was no room for the U.S. Department of Transportation-Federal Highway ...
