Article: Yale to Establish New Residential Colleges

Yale Corporation has unanimously authorized the construction of two new residential colleges meant to increase the enrollment of Yale College and ease overcrowding in Yale's existing facilities.

In a recent letter to alumni, faculty, students and staff, Yale University President Richard C. Levin said the establishment of the new colleges, which are expected to open in 2013, will increase the enrollment of Yale College by 15 percent. The college currently admits fewer than 10 percent of the more than 20,000 students who apply each year.
