Engaging in public policy work is an element of the legacy of the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). In recent years, as AAFCS Chalkley-Fenn Public Policy Scholars, we have called for a renewed commitment to civic engagement as an association and as individual members to strengthen families as the basic unit of our democracy (Braun & Williams, 2002). The Association's Public Policy Committee members' capacity to do this important public work has been developed.
