Article: Maine Dems: McCain Plan to Gut Social Security Prompts Young Dems, Senior Dems to Take Action

The Maine Democratic Party issued the following news release:

On the 73rd birthday of the nation's Social Security program, Democrats spanning several generations came together today in Portland and in Bangor to prevent a U.S. presidency led by John McCain, who is determined to gut the program that has lifted millions of Americans out of poverty.

The Maine Democratic Party held press conferences in Portland and Bangor, followed by "cross-generational phonebanks" that are part of today's 2,008 Dials for a 2008 Victory, a grass-roots effort by the Democrats to make at least 2,008 telephone dials to their neighbors in each county in a single day.
